Our Interactive Projection Mapping Dance Project (IPMD) is made by an infrared (IR) tracking system associated with an iphone-controlling device. An IR ring is placed on the dancer to be tracked, which constantly emits IR signals in all directions are then tracked by one IR receiver. The way the receiver is pointing towards allows the computer to determine the tracked position. The position of the tracked object is then record and graphics will be triggered in real time through projections. Meanwhile, the audiences can interact with the projections through an iphone.

Through out the Final Year Project, we wish to show the audience a taste that New Media Performances can be achieved by ordinary students with mixed media.

Purpose

We aim to create an interactive installation controlled by multiple users on the internet in real time. A physical room with projectors and music instruments will be installed and monitored by webcams. Users can see what is happening in the room “live” by video streaming. The music instruments and the projection will trigger sounds and images when users are clicking and interacting with the webpage. Users will provide unique performances and will get a visual and sound feedback live from the webcam and microphone installed at the room.

We truly hope that by connecting art and technology, we can form a two-way internet experience for users. All in all, by merging our virtual and physical world together, we can provide users a whole new experience on improvisation and bring performance to another level.

For the technical issue, we hope to use arduino and sensors to control music instruments/projections. HTML, PHP, flash, processing will be the programming language. Severs and web-developments are needed. With the growth of smartphone market in this couple of years, we hope to transform this web-application to a phone application (android/ ios4). Millions of possibilities can be happened in this rapid growth of technology and internet. We believe a successful creative idea will meet a lot of errors and hard time, we will treasure our time to make changes and explore more on the application we are creating. We believe changes can be made and ideas can be created!
